Description

In the beautiful Star Valley nestled between the soaring Bridger, Teton, and Caribou mountain ranges lies Rusty Elk Lodge. A quiet retreat built with the utmost in creativity and thought. A scenic drive along the Snake River Canyon leads to nearby Jackson Hole, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone.

The local area is home to adventure of all kinds. From river rafting in the summer to snowmobiling in the winter, make Rusty Elk your final destination or a stop along the way.

Rusty Elk is a custom home that was designed with the details in mind. Rustic and unique design elements dot the architecture of the home. Local materials were used to honor the history and style of the area. Most importantly, we embrace making our guests feel at home and comfortable. Kick your shoes off, throw your feet up, and relax in style is the vibe you will find here.

The Retreat is the studio guest house featuring a downstairs queen bed, living area, and kitchen.  Up the ladder you will find a queen bed, twin bed, and a fun perch that overlooks the valley.

Amazing Location

Amazing location. Great view of sunset and sunrise. Extremely well-designed - attention to detail with every detail of aesthetics. Kim was a great host, very responsive and flexible.

All around great!

Loved it. Went into it knowing the caveats in the listing/reviews. Appreciated the honesty on the property. Yes the ladder is very steep. Yep. All four of us took baths. And we shared the property. But I'm so so glad we didn't let any of that stop us. Because all the extras not mentioned far surpassed the caveats. The property is drop dead amazingly gorgeous. The owners put as much love and care into building (I think they built it??) and decorating the home as Mother Nature did with the surrounding area. We got there around sunset and it was stunning. The picnic table is one of the extras we didn't notice and we were giddy to find it beckoning us as the valley lit up with a last glow. The house has a full kitchen, laundry set up, and front wrap around patio. We were so appreciative for all the little things we didn't think to bring. Laundry detergent, binoculars, coffee, lavender spray and sachet for sleep. Oh and a chest of board games. I'm sure there was more that I cannot remember. The other house was occupied. I'm assuming by the owners. But don't know for sure because we only saw flashes of them. And yes, the design of the property is perfect for creating privacy (windows don't face each other). The hosts left a print out of property rules/guidance and a long list of great things to do in the area. All in all. It was nice to have a calm place to recenter on our 18 day road trip. Washed our clothes, baked a couple of pies, danced in a rain storm, and just rested. Comfortable, clean, well designed, and all around great

Cozy Mountain Retreat

Loved our stay! Property is so cozy, well-maintained, cute, with beautiful views. Kids stayed in the loft, and we took the bed downstairs. Rented snowmobiles in Afton and went up Greys River area, skied at Teton Village in Jackson, snow tubed at Snow King, and took a day to hang out and enjoy the Netflix. Hope to come back and check the area out during the summer! Kim was great and opened up the mud room area so we had a place to hang and dry out our gear.

Very Clean

Very clean and well put together. We came to snowmobile and brought a 28ft trailer which we got in but it was a little tight. Great mud room for drying off gear. Located between alpine and Afton it’s only about 20 minutes away from both trails. Hopefully a little more snow next time we come!

Fabulous Trip

My fiancé and I had a wonderful stay at Kim’s place! We were able to cook wonderful meals, read books by the fire, and even go out for an awesome winter hike on a nearby trail. We’re even talking about coming back for the summer. Overall, a fabulous trip that met all of our expectations!
