In the beautiful Star Valley nestled between the soaring Bridger, Teton, and Caribou mountain ranges lies Rusty Elk Lodge. A quiet retreat built with the utmost in creativity and thought. A scenic drive along the Snake River Canyon leads to nearby Jackson Hole, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone.

The local area is home to adventure of all kinds. From river rafting in the summer to snowmobiling in the winter, make Rusty Elk your final destination or a stop along the way.

Rusty Elk is a custom home that was designed with the details in mind. Rustic and unique design elements dot the architecture of the home. Local materials were used to honor the history and style of the area. Most importantly, we embrace making our guests feel at home and comfortable. Kick your shoes off, throw your feet up, and relax in style is the vibe you will find here.

The Retreat is the studio guest house featuring a downstairs queen bed, living area, and kitchen.  Up the ladder you will find a queen bed, twin bed, and a fun perch that overlooks the valley.

Exactly as Advertised

What can I add that the reviews haven’t already. The cabin was exactly as advertised. It truly is a slice of heaven. Very clean, well thought out, seamless Check in and check out. Luxurious touches throughout. Very clean. The views, the walks, the wolves at night howling, the fireplace, the quaintness. I can’t rave enough about our stay. We plan to return.

Wow! Wow! Wow!!! What an absolutely fabulous place to stay - simply superlative! From first contact, Kim was so warm, helpful, responsive and kind. And fast! We had zero issues, but her helpfulness and attentiveness really ensured our stay was perfection. And the space! So thoughtfully designed, with interesting and adorable little touches throughout. Yes, there’s a loft with a steep ladder. And yes, there’s “just” a tub (though you can close the curtain and there’s a rod to attach the handle to if you prefer a shower). But the kitchen is so well laid out and designed (we cooked dinner every night, baked, etc), and the primary space is so achingly adorable and cozy … truly hygge. The bed is very comfortable (I slept in more than I have in years), the vaulted ceilings make the space feel thrice as large as it is, and that fireplace is to die for. We’ve been to Jackson/Tetons many times, so for us the distance was no issue. We went to both, on two separate days. I personally would not bank on using this as a daily base to explore those (much less Yellowstone). But the drive is beautiful - and there are a lot of hikes and things to explore nearby. Or just curl up and read a book! We cannot recommend Kim’s place highly enough … in fact, we loved it so much we added a few extra days.

Great Mountain Views

Great views and an amazing fire pit. The owners provided some firewood but we went to the local store and loaded up. Made s'mores and watched the sun set over the mountains. Great location too. There are trails and all kind of stuff to do within a few minutes or you are only an hour from Jackson. Would definitely stay again.

Peaceful retreat

What a peaceful retreat! The house was stocked with everything I needed and then some. Lovely design (just as shown in photos) and very comfortable. My favorite was simply reading on the porch while the sun went down and enjoying the peace and quiet. You definitely need a car to get around. This is a guest house and the main house is on the same property, but I never saw or heard anyone during my visit. Thank you for a great stay!

Perfect for our trip

This property was perfect for our trip. This was our first time to visit Wyoming and we wanted to see all of the touristy parts. Such as Yellowstone national park in the grand Tetons. It was a bit of a a travel for us to see these places that we enjoyed being outside of all the crowds. Our next visit to this area we will stay off the beaten path and enjoy the area in this little town. We plan to return!

This was a great spot!

If you’re a couple or small family with older kids and you’re looking for a base of operations in the Star Valley area, Rusty Elk Lodge is a good bet. While cosy, this cabin offers everything one might need for a few days or a week of outdoor fun in Western Wyoming. If you’re looking for multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, this rental isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for a quiet cabin experience (with great views!) within easy drives of horseback riding, fishing, and hiking (in the summer) this is the spot. The small kitchen is well-equipped for cooking meals (there are grocery stores in Alpine and Thayne), the washer and dryer ensure that you can wash the dust off your clothes after a day of adventure (don’t forget some laundry pods!), and the owner offers comfortable beds and quality linens for a great night’s sleep. Not to mention the extra touches like the fire pit outside, games and books, and rocking chairs on the wide porch. This was a great spot!
